Report of the 4-days Training Workshop on Designing Institutional Digital Repository on Social Sciences
Organized by University of Kalyani in collaboration with
NASSDOC  ICSSR, New Delhi
11-14, March, 2008

It is good news that Department of Library and Information Science e of University of Kalyani in collaboration with the NASSDOC  ICSSR, New Delhi recently organized a 4-day training workshop on Designing Institutional Digital Repository on Social Sciences.

The programme was fully satisfactory, because of its so many lectures, lab-demonstrations and finally hands-on training of IDR software DSpace.

Mr. Arun Ghosh, Former Librarian of Centre of Studies in Social Sciences has given lecture on Social Science information: characteristics, growth and organization.

Dr. P. R. Goswami, The Director of NASSDOC-ICSSR has through the light on Information system and services of NASSDOC.

In the next session an overview of LINUX Operating System and its installation lecture has given by Dr. Dibyendu Paul, Lecturer of DLIS, University of Kalyani.

Finally, Dr. Partha Sarathi Mukhopadhyay, Lecturer of  Burdawn University   and Dr. Aditya Tripathi, Faculty member of Banaras Hindu University have discussed and presented so many lab-demonstrations of different aspects of Institutional Digital Repository and its software like DSpace including its installation, administration, customization, etc. side by side lectures have given on Metadata standards, Lucen search engine, Unicode and other related issues.

Therefore, this kind of programme is very helpful for LIS professionals in different ways.
