The Institute is a successor to the Colaba Observatory which was set up in 1823 by East India Company, and where the first magnetic observations were started in 1841. It became an autonomous research institute under the Department of Science & Technology in 1971, and was named as the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism. Apart from basic and applied research, the Institute operates 10 modern magnetic observatories spread across the country and has two research centres at Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu and Allahabad , U.P. The Institute library has a comprehensive collection of more than 20,000 books and bound journal volumes in geomagnetism and its allied fields. Other formats like maps, reprints, reports and non book material are also available to the users. The library is automated and all the library operations are done using the SLIM21 software. Library facilities are also made available to our observatory staff and the two research centres. The selected candidate will get hands on experience of working in different sections of the library and will have opportunity of working in a library with modern facilities. JOB TITLE : Trainee Librarian NUMBER OF POSTS : Two QUALIFICATION : The interested candidate should have a post graduate degree in Library & Information Science (MLISc) from a recognized university with good academic record. Candidates with a Science degree and basic computer knowledge will get preference. PERIOD OF SELECTION : The candidates will be initially selected for a period of 6 months, that may be extended as per the requirements of the Institute. AGE GROUP : Preferably 25-28 years SALARY : Rs.7000/- per month.
