Dear Friends, The New Education Policy - 2020 by and large has been welcomed by almost all the academicians and educationalists, barring a few who are trying to seek answers to some genuine questions from the present Government. Now, coming back to our LIS field, I am glad that the much debated and criticized M. Phil degree is abandoned. I remember there were many arguments about their quality, mode of study, validity and equivalency compared to regular Ph. D in this forum. I am sure that many would agree with me that our UGC is known for creating new rules & regulations and later make amendments to them or even remove them altogether later. I hope at least now our LIS schools/departments including open universities try to maintain the required minimum standards while granting research degrees in LIS, so that our students will not end up jobless even after doing a PhD.
