Prologue

The web is evolving, and everyday new features are popping up on our browsers. It is bringing disruptive changes and challenging our concerns and considerations of web applications and  services.  It is also challenging our current forms of offering information services to users.  In this changing environment, the libraries/institutions that facilitate integration with e-learning environment and ensure user centricity and web based applications would surf to the top and  survive.  Social computing applications to meet users need When, Where and How they require - is the need of the hour.  Therefore, it becomes imperative for the libraries/institutions  to use flexible best of breed systems, thereby providing a framework for integrating changes into all levels of operations.  It is with this view that the present workshop is being organized to get information professionals groomed into the emerging technologies for providing services in most effective and efficient way and be in tune with the new web based environment.

 

Workshop Objectives

The purpose of this workshop is to provide training to information professionals in web content management and expose them to important concepts of emerging web 2.0 technologies. Broadly the workshop objectives are:

·         To provide background knowledge of emerging web technologies

·         To offer training in fundamentals of web designing and development

·         To offer first hand knowledge and training in various web applications for creating a social network among its users

·         To learn how Web 2.0 technologies might propel changes in libraries manage their collections and user access

·         Training in integration of new features for facilitating and enriching library services.

·         Train information professionals  to share knowledge and publish useful information such as library guides, e-mail alerts, library blog, subject wiki, RSS alerts for library news,implement  IM  reference for getting hooked   with users,  and social bookmarking

·         To experiment with and use lib 2.0 tools and related concepts.

Workshop Content

The Workshop will focus on fundamentals of web designing, web-technologies to build static and dynamic web sites, web-database integration, web 2.0 technologies,  lib 2.0 tools, advanced features of content rich sites, etc. The workshop would facilitate generating content rich sites, user-librarian participation and help in providing a range of web based services including CAS services

 

Pedagogy

The Workshop will be conducted at the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi. The pedagogy will be mix of lectures, discussions and hands-on sessions. Each participant will be provided with a CD-ROM comprising of presentations, lecture notes, and relevant resource material.

 

Workshop Faculty

Experts in the relevant area will be invited from the different institutes and universities in India.

 

Target Audience

The Workshop will be beneficial to library and information science professionals, research scholars, and other interested persons 

with good working knowledge of Information Technology. The workshop participation is restricted to a maximum of 25 participants. The participants will be selected on first-cum-first served basis.
 
Workshop Effect 

At the end of the Workshop, the participants are expected to be well versed and confident of developing content rich dynamic sites for facilitating effective library services to its users and create a participative environment through the website.

 

Registration   

Registration for the Workshop opens on Monday, February 16, 2009. Registration Fee: Rs. 4500/- per participant, which includes Workshop Kit, Course material, Working Lunch and Tea.

Accommodation

Accommodation for participants can be arranged on demand in the IIPA Guest House as per actuals, approx Rs 750-1250 per day  for a double bed room.
