Society for the Advancement of Library and Information Science (SALIS) invites applications/nominations from the members and LIS  Professionals

for the following awards for the year 2025.

1. SALIS - Dr. Harish Chandra-Sushila Chandra National Best Librarian Award.

2. SALIS - AutoLib-Tamilnadu Best Librarian Award.

3. SALIS - AutoLib-Tamilnadu Best Young Librarian Award.

4. SALIS - A.N.Marappan Memorial National Best Librarian Award.

5. SALIS - S.M.Venkidusamy Memorial Best Public-School Librarian Award.

6. SALIS - Dr.R.Srinivasan Memorial Special Appreciation and Meritorious Service Award (Research in LIS).

7. SALIS - Dr.A.Essaki - Memorial Special Appreciation and Meritorious Service Award (Tamil Nadu - Public Library).

8. SALIS - Mrs. M.Jannath Najeemunnisa Beegum Memorial National Appreciation and Meritorious Service Award [for Women Librarians].

9. SALIS - Mr.G.G.Sivakumar Memorial Special Appreciation and Meritorious Service Award.

10. SALIS - LIS National Best Teacher Award.

11. SALIS – EDUSYS - National Dynamic Librarian Award.

12. SALIS - Ln. Dr.K.S.Rangasamy MJF National Best Library Extension Services Award.

13. SALIS - Dr. M. Tamizhchelvan Memorial National Special Appreciation and Meritorious Service Award (Research in LIS - for Young LIS Professionals below 40 years).

14. SALIS - Thirumathi K.Chellammal Memorial Life Time Achievement Award for LIS Professionals.

15. SALIS - Dr.S.R.Ranganathan Best Readers’ Club Member Award (Students).

16. SALIS - Selvan S. Suresh Memorial Best Library User Award (Students).

17. SALIS - Dr. N. Prabhakar National Best College Librarian Award.

A committee constituted by the President of SALIS will select a suitable candidate for each award from among the nominations/applications received, strictly based on the criteria established for the respective award. If no suitable candidate is identified for a particular award, the committee may nominate a deserving LIS professional, strictly based on the prescribed criteria for that award.

All awardees will be presented with a memento, citation, and shawl. The awards are likely to be presented on 30 October 2026 during the International/National Conference jointly organized by the Central Library, Pondicherry University, and SALIS at Pondicherry University, Puducherry.

Last date for receipt of application/nomination is 15.10.2026.(Monday).

Please note that SALIS gives awards to LIS professionals for their meritorious services rendered to the profession, to society, or research contributions. Therefore, SALIS WILL NOT COLLECT ANY AMOUNT IN ANY FORM TO APPLY FOR THE AWARD.

Eligibility Criteria for the Awards and Application Guidelines:

The applicant/nominee should be a citizen of India and must have a good conduct record.

The applicant should be a working library professional holding at least a Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science (LIS) or an equivalent qualification.

Interested professionals should apply only in the prescribed application form by POST only.

Nominations may be submitted by the applicant themselves or by a responsible senior library professional, Head of the Department (HOD), or Head of the Institution.

Those who have previously received a SALIS Award in a particular category are not eligible to apply for the same award again. However, they may apply for an award in another category after a minimum gap of five years.

Applications submitted without complete details and supporting documents will be rejected. Applicants may enclose separate sheets wherever necessary to provide additional details.

The duly filled-in application form, clearly indicating the year of the Award, should reach the office on or before 15.10.2026.

The decision of the committee constituted by SALIS for selecting the award recipient shall be final and binding.

The Award Committee may consider an applicant for another suitable award category if more qualified applications/nominations are received for the category applied for. However, if a candidate has previously received a SALIS Award in any category, they will be considered for another SALIS Award only after a minimum gap of five years.

The Award Committee reserves the right to postpone or cancel an award due to any unavoidable circumstances.
