Ref: LIS-FORUM Digest, dt 14th March. This has reference to the Mr.Balesh Kumar (Librarian S. D. College (Lahore) Ambala Cantt.-133 001- Haryana)’s question on “Peer reviewed journal and Referred journal”. A peer reviewed journal is one in which the contents or articles are reviewed by Peers/Experts in thier field before publication. A journal having articles reviewed by peers/experts is called referred journal. Some of the characteristics required for papers to be submitted for academic journals are novelty of the topic, clarity of presentation, error free language, etc. generally Publishers/Editors such as IEEE, ASME, Elsevier, etc. expect papers submitted to them should have very high standard so that editors/publishers can have high impact factor for their journals. As per my knowledge the norms for papers are not uniform for all the publishers. Papers submitted for presention during conferences/seminars do not expect of such a high standard as the orgnisers of events want to receive good number of papers from participants. They desire to encourage new bees.
