Dear friends, It is absurd to know that some people always 'preach' or 'copy' anything that happens in US libraries. I think lending iPads or e-book readers to students in Indian university libraries is not feasible for many reasons; forget about public libraries many of which do not have even an Internet connection. I think ISB library cannot be quoted as an example, since it is a special library with huge funding and its clientele are top-level managers in corporate firms. Dr. M. Koteswara Rao

Dear Ms Karnik
The examples I had is a US public library. In India, an academic library (Indian School of Business, H'bad) allows students to upload electronic stuff on to their iPads and pen drives. I think they also lend handheld devices, but you may check it with Dr S Venkadesan, Director of Knowledge Services at IBS.
Best wishes.

Friends:
Now one can not only borrow e-books from the local public library but also a device to read them (like an iPad or Kindle). See this news story from Texas, USA.

One of the purposes of a public library is to reach knowledge and information to the community. And if that needs assistance with technology for those who cannot afford it, the library is ready to provide it.
