But the key words is "Professional Maturity" there is no such defination how much time a person will take for professional maturity, my point is a NET/SET fellow will no doubt gain this professional maturity within short period than a non-qualified, because they are well tested. We LIS professionals should behave like professionals. How? Think about it. Do we have value in society? After getting NET Certificate and job as librarian, how this will give you status or value in society. Number of LIS professionals are facing identity problem in society. We can take example of lawyer or Doctor; they are independent professionals and are not fighting for professional status or value in society. It is not required for them because they have achieved the status in Society. We, LIS professionals are running behind equivalent status of teachers only and we are asking it from our society and it is not ready to give such types of approval. No body is discussing on this issue, which is very much important.
Dr. S.R. Raganathan has worked a lot and did good job for LIS profession. We have to follow him and make some standards for professional development. We all have to follow the same standards. My request to all senior Professionals, we should act accordingly and make our place in the society.
I think NET Examination is only standard criteria for solving saturation problem. I agree with the decision of maintaining standard in Higher education because the standard of education in some universities are very much poor but we can give some chances to improve it otherwise we can take preventive action on such universities.
Research in the field is necessary now days. Especially in our field it is very much required.
Indira Gandhi National Open University prefers M.Phil. Degree or five years work experience for getting admission for Ph.D. in LIS. For more details, you can refer the prospectus. We all know better that the standard of education through IGNOU. They are not demanding NET or SLET. So we should not compare research degrees with NET/SLET Examinations.
Now I will be shift over professional ability and maturity. I want to compare two LIS professionals here. One is fresh MLIS student cleared his eligibility test in One or Two attempts. The other one who have Five years working experience with research degree. The first one will get direct appointment. But the second one has to clear NET/SLET. Is it necessary for him? What is the value for work experience then?
Who will work efficiently? I think, the person who is having experience and knowledge about the field because now everywhere all are asking experience for the responsible post.
What types of quality services we can expect from such NET cleared librarians? generally at entry level, there is absence of *professional maturity*, he or she cannot make some decisions or there is always possibility of irrelevant decisions. So there should be some standard and uniform criteria for such appointments too.

Since last two decades, there are hearing of dithering between UGC NET/SET relax and mandatory. Knowledge Commission of India is also suggested in favour of essentiality. I think every LIS people should prove their credentials by qualifying highest body exams.
