[LIS-Forum] Estimate of number of public libraries in India

Dear all, Would anyone have the latest number of public libraries in India? The latest one I got with on the Internet is a 1993 estimate of 44,205 in a paper referenced here: http://www.worlib.org/vol05no2/j_v05n2.shtml I will be grateful if anyone can give me a more recent figure.
