I am writing this mail in response to the ongoing discussion in this Forum regarding developing an Indian Librarians Database, especially since there was a specific reference to Mysore University and also a comment' are any LIS schools listening?
My response is as follows: I agree with Dr.Vyasamurthy regarding building on the existing databases and getting it done by some student of LIS.However this requires sharing of data.
I have the following suggestions and services to offer. ---- * As part of some of the activites that I have been involved with in the last couple of years, I already have built up a database of more than 800 Librarians in a database form * I could get one of my students to take it up as a Project and get it updated * I would welcome anyone to send me lists/databases that they might have and we will use that to check duplicates/update the database * We have also developed a web based Experts database, which permits filling up and submission of data by the experts themselves.This could also be used to get LIS professionals to update the database.I am ready to make it available to have an exclusive LIS professionals database * May be we could use both the stratgies to come up with a Indian LIS professionals database * I would offer to host the database on the Vidyanidhi Website

always "who will bell the cat?" (Who will pay for the expenses involved?) I have some suggestions in this respect.
To have a good database of Indian librarians, why not use the existing librarians directory in www.infolibrarian.com ? OR you may try Inflibnets Experts Database as well. The latter is academic librarians oriented; Inflibnet database's Data Entry Form is far too detailed and this might deter many from adding their own data. Infolibrarian is for ALL librarians. Every librarian, big or small, may be persuaded to enter his details here. It so happens that only Juniors enter their data in such databases. Seniors are too proud to lend their names to be included. To obviate this problem each institute/library may request one of the colleagues to enter all library

We have a number of sources for details of
INFOLIBRARIAN. ILA, IASLIC, SIS, ALSD, BONET, CALIBNET etc Let us not proliferate more directories that are difficult to keep updated. Let us strengthen just one (ANY ONE) and make it a BIG success.
Library Science Schools can ask their students to take up projects of 'mass population' of such databases. For instance some student in SNDT or Mysore University can say collect details of all librarians in Mumbai or Mysore and enter say a substantial
