Friends: Please look up http://chnm.gmu.edu/resources/essays/essay.php?id=2 for an article by Prof. Roy Rosenzweig of George mason University. Friends in C3Net, my postings on OA may look a bit far from our day-to-day work and interests, but OA is very important for developing countries. And we need to play a role in OA advocacy, as we at MSSRF point out often the knowledge centres in our villages facilitate two-way communication between experts and scientists on the one hand and farmers and the rural poor on the other. Knowledge flows both ways. The rural poor have indigenous knowledge. Besides, the scientists in the labs should be sensitised to the real needs of the poor so they can reorient their research to be relevant to the needs of the poor. And scientists themselves should keep abreast of developments worldwide and that is where OA becomes tremendously important.
