"Building the Library of the Future" Illustrated lecture by Dr. Klaus Ulrich Werner Date: Wednesday, 08.09.2010, 6.30 p.m. Venue: Siddartha Hall, Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan Creating libraries is essentially about people, and the increasing diversity of their needs. The traditional library is undergoing a radical transformation from collection-dominated to user-centric and this inspires the design of the new library buildings and the entire planning process. In the debate on modern library buildings "flexibility" is the main focus. Dr. Klaus Ulrich Werner will outline the key qualities of good library space and will show some remarkable examples of new academic and public libraries to illustrate current developments and trends in architecture and design from a German perspective. Dr. Klaus Ulrich Werner is currently the Director of the Philological Library of the Freie Universität Berlin and has a degree in Library and Information Science and a Ph.D. in German Literature. He has been a consultant for many major library projects, both for restructuring libraries as well as building new ones. Dr. Werner has various publications to his credit in the field of library building, equipment and library management. He is also a member of the commission for library and archive building guidelines of the German Institute for Standardization (DIN). This event is a part of LIBRARY WEEK: Programme celebrating the reopening of the Regional Library.
