Dear profesionals I am pleased to annouce a Seminar on Open Access to Textual and Multimedia Content: Bridging the Digital Divide, January 29-30, 2008 at India Habitat Centre,New Delhi. It is Jointly Organized by INFLIBNET and CEC Objectives: 1. To review current trends and developments in e-content management, ICT applicable to development and dissemination of educational resources through open access 2. To examine and evaluate the existing activities, services and functionalities of the two organisations; 3. To identify areas of activities that the two organisations can take up in collaborative fashion with its existing infrastructure and expertise; 4. To examine Web 2.0 and Library 2.0 tools and technologies and examine possibilities of deploying them in activities and services of two organizations; and 5. To explore improved means and methods of providing textual and multimedia scholarly contents to the academic community. The Seminar will have evaluative presentations by invited speakers only on the core objectives followed by panel discussion on the subject consisting of expert panellists in media, library and information science and ICT. On the 2nd day of the seminar there could be Open House discussion or the participants depending on their preferences will join one of the 4 to 5 Work Groups to discuss various themes and sub-themes of the seminar and evolve recommendations and follow-up actions for the two institutions. The scope and contents of the seminar can further be expanded depending on the feed-back received from the participants consisting of user community in academia. The seminar is essentially targeted to the academic community in the universities and colleges. Individuals concerned with application of ICTs in libraries, media centres, virtual learning, online courseware development and dissemination would also benefit from the seminar. The existing users of media services from CEC / EMMRC's and INFLIBNET will also participate.
