As an important cultural partner to Creative Commons, Europeana’s platform strengthens the commons through its large, searchable collection of digital records - over 54 million digitized items (books, photos, paintings, television broadcasts and 3D objects) from nearly 4,000 European libraries, archives, museums and audiovisual galleries. As CC Search continues to grow, more material from this rich repository of cultural heritage images, data, and records will be added. Other leading institutions that have partnered with Creative Commons include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, and New York Public Library. Indian galleries, archives, libraries and museums have great collections that we could share with the world. The Ministry of Culture could take the lead to create the Indian equivalent of Europeana and the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) and make the entire collection accessible through a CC license.
