Regarding The topic of Libraries not coming forward in the Open source field ..I do not subscribe to this view. I agree it is slow but there is definite progreess in accepting and creating Institute Portals with Links to their own Digital libraries. One must not ignore the larger picture of the Publishing Industry who have till now controlled the production of all scientific literature maybe except thesis and Student/ faculty project reports. These are being uploaded in Open sourse in may Digitization Projects in India today. Slowly but surely this movement will prove a challenge to the publishing Industry, in time, the facility and methods must become more and more popular each institute must value their own portal more than other publications . Networking of open source Library databases will happen, we have to start well to finish well. More and more developments including statndard formats for publishing can be introduced in open source which electronically will look like a jornal article or a book...there is scope for many more developments in the open source software, alongwith tine that and use will soon challenge the publishing Industry. As students, budding librarians are being given sound understanding about the free & open source library software movement at various levels of their education. Simultaneously, steps toward development of an understanding about the value of digital contents and the ways of creating the same are also being provided through workshops by professional library bodies. As far as the practice of libraries becoming a source for the creation and dissemination of learning materials as digital contents is concerned, many developed libraries are very much busy in the process. Gradually, it is hoped that digital contents of the subjects covered by the S & T shall become freely available for the users.
