Indian Statistical Institute Documentation Research and Training Centre 8th Mile, Mysore Road, RVCE Post, Bengaluru-560059 Seminar-3 Web OPAC: Gateway of Library Resources Abstract The library is the store house of the past and present knowledge. Without the key, you cant open door of a house, similarly, without the catalogue, users can't search library resources. With the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the form of the catalogue is being changed. But the main goal which is to provide aid in searching remains the same. Using ICT, Web OPAC breaks many barriers. With many advanced techniques, it helps both casual and serious users. If the voice & image based search is integrated with the Web OPAC, they can open the gate of knowledge for challenged and non-formal educated users. Incorporation of voice & image based search is a challenge. Once implemented, libraries will become a social institution for all. In this seminar, we will discuss the various search functions and techniques in libraries and the limitations of search techniques in Web OPAC.
