Dear Members, Kerala's achievement in social development and quality of life are inspiring and encouraging. The State has accorded high priority to education for a long time. There are 9 Engineering Colleges and 49 Polytechnic Colleges in addition to the Colleges of Fine Arts, Technical High Schools, Govt. Commercial Institutes, Tailoring and Garment Making Training Centres and Vocational Training Centres under the Department of Technical education. Technical education in the State will get a major boost through much hyped digital repository and E-learning initiative titled 'Kbase'. This Knowledge base is working under Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Kerala and the system has been hosted at College of Engineering Trivandrum for all the Govt. Engineering Colleges and Govt. Polytechniques under the Directorate. The repository houses digital content of scholarly nature created by the faculty, staff and students under the Directorate of Technical Education or group of institutions accessible to end users both within and outside the institution. This is intended to be shared amongst the departments as well as to preserve the valuable contents as the intellectual output of its various institutions. Kbase includes materials such as research journal articles, before (preprints) and after (postprints) undergoing peer review, and digital versions of theses and dissertations, other digital assets generated by normal academic life, such as administrative documents, course notes, or learning objects.
