Hi I have been reading the various posts on the topic. I do believe that libraries cannot be replaced by any of the above. I would say Twitter is a forum where you can 'take from' interesting things such as eol.org from the Smithsonian site as a source of interactive information. There are knowledgable people out there whose posts are a pleasure to refer to. At the same time, I use Facebook as a forum to 'give' information culled from Twitter for the kind of audience who is into more lighthearted things. Some things seem to catch their interest thankfully. However, a library is a library. Flitting from site to site is no match to reaching out from book to book. Internet 'comments' are no match for discussions initiated by libraries. And being amidst human beings is no match for isolated grasping at information. In modern days I would say the library is the greatest stress buster ever. I wonder why no one talks of this in their myriad writings on how to lead a tension free life. Internet gives me tension! Let's go back to human interface. I am not in the librarian profession so I hope I am excused for immature comments if any.
