Dear All, In the age of open source solutions it is difficult to justify Fund related issues for purchasing of software and their maintenance. In LIS profession their are several type of Open source software (OSS) available today like Newgenlib, Koha, Evergreen etc. for automation, Dspace, Greenstone etc, for Digitization Joomla, drupal for Content management and many others which facilitates advance features for all library related activities free of cost. Therefore my view is giving excuses of fund problem for automation, digitization, website creation is not justifiable. Now a days we can see Newgenlib people are always posting on forums to automate your library free of cost and recently a MHRD initiative under the project NMEICT some professionals are engaged to Automate the AICTE/UGC affiliated collages/institute libraries with KOHA software (http://koha.ignouonline.ac.in/ )without any fee/charge. So now it is time to realize our technical IT based Knowledge problem in adoption of such wonderful free of cost solutions for libraries and we need to pay much attention in development of such skills, i am sure these capability will also help in improving the status of library profession in society also. Please do not forget that commercial firms who provide the support for above software are not the maker of OSS they just make us aware about how to use the software which should not be a big job for young B.Lib, M.Lib, Dr. in LIS and some stupid like me.
