Dear LIS professionals I read many comments about part time Ph.D.My opinion is that working librarians having more experience can do part time Ph.D. The limit of experience can be decided by the individual universities. It cab be 8 years or 10 years. The only thing important is that the research work should be new and useful to the LIS and to the society. The out come of the research should be the solution to the current problems of LIS whether it may be a part time or full time Ph.D work. The working librarians having more experience cannot compete with the candidates with Ph.D with less experience. And also there should not discriminate between part time and full time Ph.D's.There should not be any restriction to gain knowledge in any subject. Why working librarians have to be kept in dark place. It is the responsibility of all the Universities to maintain quality or standards in admission and award of Ph.D's.So I request all the librarians to urge the concerned bodies to maintain quality or standards in admission and award of Ph.D's,rather than simply to stop part time Ph.D's.
