Dear All, Indira Gandhi National College, Ladwa ( Kurukeshtra) is organizing a tow day UGC sponsered national workshop on Open source solution for Academic libraries on 19-20 February , 2011. About the workshop As we know the Open Source Softwares have created a lot of enthusiasm and opportunities in the domain of library services. Open Source Softwares are available free of cost, support you to work at the system level and provide freedom to customize software as per the requirements of a specific library. Numerous Open Source Library automation softwares like Koha, NewGenLib, MyLibrary, and digital library creation softwares like Green Stone and Dspace etc are available. Koha is the full featured Open-source Integrated Library System (ILS) from open source domain. It is Web-centric, modular, multilingual and compliant with almost all the bibliographic standards storing, processing and retrieving of Indic script based documents. KOHA is free, supported by an internal group of developers and obviously has a tremendous application possibility in automation of college libraries and public libraries in India. Aims/ Objectives •The workshop will provide an intensive training to the library Professionals with regard to the optimum utilization of Open Source Softwares to effect library automation. •A detailed discussion on the best featured software “KOHA” will characterize the workshop. •A few lectures covering the various features of digital library developing softwares will be delivered. •Workshop will also provide a forum to the librarians to exchange their views on the problems being confronted by them in implementation of Open Source Softwares and the expert views of the Resource Persons will go a long way in facilitating the process they are going through.
