About LIS research symposium The LIS research symposium is held annually and is co-hosted by the Department of Information Science and UNISA Library. This will be the 6th Annual symposium. Its main purpose is to share knowledge and stimulate critical debate on research-related library and information science issues. Theme and sub-themes This year’s theme is ‘Information Provision – Towards 2020 and Beyond’. It is well acknowledged that information provision is rapidly changing largely due to the dynamic information users and their needs, technological developments and changing formats that carry information. Information provision and LIS education and training therefore require a consistent and continuous review so that the LIS sector remains relevant in the present time and in future. In view of the above brief introduction of the theme, the symposium is intended to cover, among others, the following sub-themes: · Changing information seeking and user behaviour patterns · Current and future information needs of users · The impact of new technology on the LIS sector · Future-ready information professionals (eg attitude, skills, education and training) · The focus of LIS research Who should attend? The symposium is open to all information workers such as academics, especially those involved in curriculum development; information professionals, and anyone interested in the latest trends in information science education and training, LIS management and information technology.
