Dear Colleagues: The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (http://www.iimk.ac.in) & the INDEST/AICTE Consortium (http://indest.iitd.ac.in/) are pleased to annouce the joint Workshop on 'Institutional Repositories', scheduled during 17-19 July 2006, at the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK). The objective of this 3-day Workshop is to provide intensive training on building Institutional Repositories (IRs) using the Open Source Software DSpace. The target audience include the librarians, information science and software professionals, and IT faculty belonging to the INDEST/AICTE Consortium Institutions, the academia, Government, Corporate and the NGOs in India. Thanking you and with regards, Sreekumar ========================================================================== Workshop Content ---------------- The Workshop shall facilitate the participants create IRs using 'DSpace' in the Windows platform, which include software installation, configuration, customization and other related workflow operations, content development and management, Internet publishing, designing and creating standard metadata sets to describe digital objects and encoding it in standard markup formats. The three-day workshop shall cover Open Access concepts, Scholarly Institutional Repositories, DSpace, and Metadata Standards. The prime focus areas are: ------------------------- Institutional Repositories: Open Access Archives, OAI, OAI-PMH - working principle, and cases. DSpace: Overview, Installations (Java 2 SDK, Apache, Jakarta Tomcat, mod_jk, Apache Ant, PostgreSQL, DSpace), Configuration, Administration, and Customization.
