Well designed organization or library web portals / Gateway services helps in the efficient dissemination of online resources to the user community. Today’s online resources includes variety of authoritative web resources (free & priced), integrating the relevant and useful resources into a web portal facilitates in the effective and efficient dissemination of information to the end users. This can be achieved using either commercial or open source content management tools. Various open source CMS tools are available on the Internet. Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla, and OpenCMS are few such examples. In this seminar, some basic and useful features and functionalities of Wordpress, one of the popular CMS tools will be featured. Wordpress (http://wordpress.org/ ) is an open source, platform independent content management system (CMS). Its popular features include simple to install and use, powerful blog functionality, customizable, multiplatform, multilingual, web based administration, powerful report generation functionality, well organized browse and search etc. Being a plug-in based modular package, it facilitates in enabling / disabling the functionalities as per the needs of implementers. It has a strong and active user and developer community who provide the much needed support in using the package effectively. Self explanatory online and offline documentation are also available for the package and they are updated frequently. Wordpress is being used in developing different genres of website in various languages. Objective of the Seminar: To demonstrate the basic and essential features and functionalities of the Wordpress CMS as to how this Open Source Web application can be used to build Web Portals and provide Web-based information services.
