About the Workshop
The purpose of the Workshop
is to provide overview of the two major international open source software-GSDL
and Dspace and also to give practical training to the participants to build
digital library collections.
The Workshop will facilitate
interaction between experts and the participants in order to bridge

Greenstone Digital Library Software
(GSDL)
GSDL is open source software used for building and distributing digital
library collection. The aim of the Greenstone
software is to empower users, particularly in universities, libraries, and other
public service institutions, to build their own digital libraries. It
provides a new way of organizing information and publishing it on the internet
or on CD-Rom. GSDL is produced by the New Zealand Digital Library project at the
DSapce
Dsapce is a digital library software used to capture store, index
p[reserve and redistribute the digital library materials. Research institutions
worldwide use the Dspace as an institutional repository, a learning object
repository for records management and more. Dspace is freely available software
and it can be customized to suit our needs. It is a joint project of the MIT
(USA) libraries and HP Labs. The DSpace application can recognize and manage a
large number of file format and mime
types.

Knowledge Managers and the Information Scientists of the various
participating institutes shall be in a position to re-organize and modernize
their library after the workshop since each one of them shall be acquainted with
the latest techniques. They shall also be in a position to interact with the
experts later, having developed a personal reputation during the workshop. This
process will directly help our academic system and the faculty members, students
and scholars. This workshop will be organized under the guidance of eminent
professionals. The workshop will enhance the intellectual output of the
participating organizations.
Target Participants
Approximately 50 selected Library and Information Science Professionals,
Academicians, IT Professionals, Research Scholars, and Students are likely to
attend the workshop.

Venue
Duration:
Duration of the workshop shall be for two
days.
Registration Fee:
Rs. 500.00 from each participant. However, 20%
concession will be given to more than one participant from the same
organization.
Registration fee will include Bag, Resource Materials,
Software’s CDs, a notepad, pen and Hands on Practice, High Tea, Lunch,
Participation Certificate and Group Photos.
Accommodation:
Accommodation will be arranged on payment and first come first serve
basis in the institute campus.
