
Need for research studies stressed (Deccan Herald, 29 Sep 2006) Bangalore, UNI: Knowledge Commission Chairman Sam Pitroda on Thursday called for more investments in research studies at the university level as India was at the top in terms of growth and position in the global economy. Mr Pitroda addressing aKnowledge Summit here, said that there was a need for students to take up research in human sciences but the latest trend showed that they opted for high salaried jobs just after completing their degree courses. Even the best brains are busy solving the problems of the rich and not of the poor, he said. They are interested in developing latest watches for the rich and solving the problems of high class banks, he added. "Our scientists with global knowledge should concentrate on solving the problems of the poor and the down trodden to improve the quality of their life," he said. Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju in his inaugural address said India was well positioned to grab the opportunities and take up the challenges in the field of knowledge management.
