Hi Community,
Thank you for providing your inputs on this question, as summarized below:
1. Q1: Selection between DOI vs. Handle system
a) Both the systems use the underlying Handle infrastructure provided by CNRI. However, there is significant cost implications for using DOI and it enabled the commercial publishers to adopt DOI, while the academic institutions have been using Handle system.
b) DOI webpage provides various points on the comparisons between both the systems here: https://www.doi.org/factsheets/DOIHandle.html
2. Q2: Need for using a single DOI/ Handle identifier for the same resource
a) A single resource can be hosted by multiple repositories. However, they may use a single resource identifier (DOI or Handle), to enable to point to the original source copy, to improve attribution as may be required from licensing/ copyright point of view.
Thank you, Dr. Saiful Amin and Dr. Vinod Mishra, for your inputs.
SocialWell is building a modern digital library framework that can deliver most of the resource types. We would be interested to listen to specific requirements that you feel are not available in existing frameworks.
Best regards,
Atanu

Hi Community, DOI and Handle are two widely used persistent URI methods. I am wondering if there are any difference between those two and which system we shall select.
I have come across a few preprint records where the record is a copy of record hosted in an original preprint server and the DOI in the copied server is referencing to the original server's URL. Should digital libraries need to refer to only original URI?
Thank you for your inputs.
Best regards, Atanu
