I would like to suggest some check point which should be followed before appointment of the Librarian especially in big and reputed Libraries.<br />
<br />
I will demonstrate it with example which are as follows:<br />
<br />
If your library is having more then 2 lakh of collection, more then 30 staff, more then 3 crore budget, more than 400 serials subscriptions, Online e-resources subscription, more than 2 thousand users etc. then my view is selecting authority/committee should follow the following check points during the selection process other wise i can say your library progress will decline and your library will collapse due to loss of peaceful/working environment of the Library.<br />
<br />
1) Check whether the candidate is having experience of handling at least more than 1.5 lakh collection or not.<br />
2) Check Whether is he/she knows how to enter Journals in kardex or software?<br />
3) Check whether the candidate have written at least 20 articles for the Journals and conferences or not otherwise after selection He/She will force your staff to write article in His/Her Name and never promote for such activity.<br />
4) Check whether he wants to prove himself/Herself as a good leader with an example not by force.<br />
5) Check whether His/Her mental condition is fit or not with the help of psychologist.<br />
6) Check whether He/She has handled more than 20 staff or not.<br />
7) Check whether He/She has handled more than 2 crore of budget or not.<br />
8) Check whether He/She is having experience of handling more than 300 Journals and e-resources.<br />
9) Check whether He/She wants to work for the Library or wants to use the glamor of the post and misuse the facility and power given to Him/Her.<br />
10) Check His/Her reputation/Contribution in Library profession.<br />
11) At last you check his academic career and achievements.<br />
<br />
If above condition is not satisfied then my view is better to leave the post vacant because your junior staffs can better handle the library without any Librarian.<br />
