OCLC, the supposedly-nonprofit organization that provides library services around the world, has grown out of control. First, it started taking libraries' catalog records and then charging them to get them back. Then it used all the money it made through this to buy up library services companies and use its monopoly power and influence to sell software and tools to libraries at exorbitant prices. But now it's gone a step too far -- it wants to claim exclusive copyright over every library record ever written, so that it can continue having them all to itself. In a very real sense, it's trying to steal the world's libraries. We have to make them stop -- sign this petition: http://watchdog.net/c/stop-oclc For more information, see this blog post: "Stealing Your Library: The OCLC Powergrab." - http://www.aaronsw.com/weblog/oclcscam Thanks, Anand Open Library http://openlibrary.org -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.
