This is great initiative, that Academic Libraries Like Calcutta University is being opened for Public. I believe all academic libraries including School, Colleges and Universities needs to be opened for public, may be on nominal charges throughout India. This step will boost Public Libraries of India and every individual will get facilities of Libraries around the country. In this connection, Commercial reading halls are emerging in the market to facilitate the users and meet their demands charging huge money. To stop this, above decision (Calcutta University is being opened for Public) is an counter attack. Even government in power needs to think and act on this. Request all other librarians to make efforts to open their libraries to public, particularly to get connected with public and maintain our (Libraries and librarians) status in the society.
