Sir, Our society does not have an attractive image of librarianship and perceived the status of librarians to be low as compared to other professions. Society believes that librarians are not highly educated individuals, library work does not require higher education, librarians basically undertake routine and boring clerical works, librarians earn less, librarians’ contribution to society is very limited, and librarians possess only limited computing knowledge. It is apparent that with such a negative image of librarianship we cannot expect many outstanding individuals to join the library profession. Dr. K M Haneefa Librarian T.K.M.
