INFIBNET Centre, Ahmedabad is organizing Workshop on Linux and Open Source Software at INFLIBNET Centre on 8th to 12th December 2008.

About the Workshop

Present age i s era of Open Source. I nflux of new informat ion technology and i ts applications in libraries using L inux operat ing sys tems and open source software to
create their own institutional repositories are increasing. The present workshop will help Library professionals in exploring the feasibility of creating contents and
hosting them in open access using open sources software. The course consists of keynote lecture and discussions by experts from the professionals with practical
assignment for hand-on-practice. Interested library & IT professionals can participate in this workshop to gain the latest knowledge for setting up their
libraries using Linux and Open Source ILM. The workshop will provide background knowledge of Linux and open source software and its applications. Following topics will be covered

during the workshop:

 Introduction to Linux and other FOSS (Free / Open Source Software)
 Installation and different flavours of Linux
 Understanding the Linux File System and Hierarchical Structure
 Linux commands and vi editors mode
 Basics of Internet and IP Structures
 Mail and Network Configuration of Linux System
 Web Server Configurations
 Proxy Server Configuration
 Firewall Configuration
 Open Source Content Management Software
 Installation and Customization of Joomla
 Introduction to Open Source ILM Software and Overview of different modules.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Library and Information professional, System and Network Administrators, Information Scientists and
others with similar responsibilities with exposure to network and information security.

NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS

A maximum of 30 candidates will be selected for the workshop on First-Come-First-Serve basis.

DURATION: 5 Days - From 8th to 12th December 2008 (Monday to Friday)

RESOURCE PERSONS

The resource persons are eminent IT/Computer/LIS Scientists/professionals and experts of the country.

REGISTRATION FEE

The registration fee is Rs. 5000.00 (Rs. Five Thousand only) per person. It covers the cost of workshop kit
containing training materials, breakfasts, lunch, snacks & dinner during the sessions. The fee is to be
paid through Demand Draft in favour of Director, INFLIBNET Centre and payable at Ahmedabad along
with filled-in registration form. Registration fee is non-refundable and non-adjustable. An additional
charge for accommodation will be paid along with the Registration Fee as mentioned below.

ACCOMMODATION

INFLIBNET will arrange accommodation during the period of training on chargeable basis in INFLIBNET
Hostel and Hotels as per the rates given below (per person per day). The participants must send prior
intimation and required charge for accommodation along with registration fee.

REGISTRATION

The filled-in registration form for registration to the course should be submitted in the prescribed form
alongiwth DD of Registration Fee and Accommodation Charges on or before 28th November, 2008 to
