Dear professionals,

As you know, libraries have evolved from being a collection of chained books to Networked Multimedia Learning Resource Centres accessible 24 X 7, disregard of physical boundaries.  Library Science education has tried to be in tune with the changing time.  But the pace is not matching with that of technology.

It is observed that the Library and Information Science syllabus being  taught at the Indian universities has its limitations as far as ICT component is concerned, as technology keeps on  changing very fast.  However, on the other hand, the need for the professionals  having ICT skills is ever increasing in modern libraries and information centers.

In view the above, The Department of Library and Information Science, Joshi-Bedekar College, Thane is happy to announce an autonomous course leading to the  Post-Graduate Diploma in Library Automation and Networking (PGDLAN).  This is a proactive effort to bridge the knowledge gap.  It is an attempt to develop a band of technology savvy librarians to take on new challenges.  Please visit
http://www.vpmthane.org/prospect%202006/Prospectus_of_PGDLAN.htm to see the course content and online application .

This initiative is aimed at working librarians in and around the city of Mumbai and Thane.   Please depute or nominate your library staff for the PGDLAN course.  The course is designed to empower library staff to introduce new state-of-the-art information services in your library.

With Regards.
