A report on the two day National Workshop on Insititutional Repositories conducucted during 12-13 June, 2008,organised by the Department of Library and Information Centre, M.S.Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore. Dr.Ramarajaurs, Univesity Librarian, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science, inaugurated the workshop. While delivering the inaugural address he emphasised more about recent advances in the field of LIS and how best our profefssionals take this opprotunity to provide better services to user community. Shri Prabhakar, I.A.S., Chief Executive of the GEF who was chief guest of the occassion and release the workshop CD. He spoke on importance of digitial libraries and in general Institutional Repositories in particular he was
suggested the participants to form a health science librarians network. Dr. M.Krishnamurthy, University Librarian, University of Mysore, spoke about on DSpace. Dr.. Kumar, Principal, M.S. Ramaiah Medical College, in his presidential address advice to adopt modern technologies. Further, Dr.M.Krishnamurthy, University Librarian, University of Mysore, served as resource person and installed Dspace on Linux platform successfully. And showed practical work how to build on Institutional Repositories. All the participants asked work on Dspace with on exercise. Dr. Ramesha, Reader, Bangalore University, invited speaker and he spoke on Institutiona Repositories: Issues and Challenges. About 75 participants from all over India have been participated. The workshop discussed the following aspects: An over view of IR, the process , hardware and software, and copyright issues involoved in the development of IR ; and hands on experience in the development of IR.
Dr. Siddamallaih, Princiopal and Information Officer, National Institute of Mental Health Science, Bangalore delivered the valedictory address. In his speech he highlighted the importance of IR and Content. Mr. I.H jahagirdar, Manager, the British Library, was chief guest and spoke on Issues and challenges before implementing IR. All the participants were given the course materials on Dspace and related software in CD form and distributed certificates. Organising Secretary N. Subramanyam, Librarian, M.S.Ramaih Medical College proposed vote of thanks.
