I am a very happy to announce that NewGenLib, the integrated library management system developed in India is now open source.
Hearty congratulations to the NewGenLib team and all the others who are directly or indirectly associated in developing this wonderful product and now for making it open-source! LIS professionals will greatly benefit by using this package because it not only helps them to automate their libraries but it also helps in maintaining their open-access repositories. Both these activities are very essential for many of the academic libraries. Till now, to the best of my knowledge, most of the libraries are using two different software packages, one for library automation and the other for open access repositories. With the availability of NewGenLib, both these essential activities can be integrated thus eliminating the possibility of using more than one computer server. Maintaining computer servers with minimal of downtime and up-to-date OS and other software packages is not an easy task. With best wishes, - Francis NCSI, IISc Bangalore
