Semantic web, as the name suggests, is an attempt to make the chaotic
World Wide Web (WWW) meaningful. Robots of web search engines can not
collect information about the content of documents from the web pages
(HTML pages), as a HTML tags provide no semantic clues about the content
of the document. This leads to noise in indexing. One solution is
providing meaning to web content by adding metadata. Semantic web is
based on Resource Description Frame work (RDF) using eXtensible Markup
Language (XML) for syntax and Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) as a
naming
convention.. DRTC announces a 3 day workshop focusing on the various
standards and Request For Comments (RFC) to enable library and information
professionals in creating semantic web. The workshop will emphasize on
comprehensive theory and practice.
