2-Day Virtual Workshop Building Institutional Repository with Open Source Software — DSpace - Hands-on sessions: setup, ingest, metadata, search & preservation

Librarian Guide Educational Academy Jalandhar is pleased to announce a 2-day virtual workshop aimed at library professionals, repository managers, IT staff, faculty, and researchers who wish to set up, manage, and maintain institutional repositories using DSpace. This workshop will be conducted on Saturday — December 6, 2025 and Sunday — December 7, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM IST each day.

Objectives

·         Understand the architecture and capabilities of DSpace.

·         Install and configure DSpace (overview of system requirements).

·         Create communities, collections and ingest items with accurate metadata.

·         Implement metadata schemas and map Dublin Core/Qualified DC.

·         Configure search, discovery, access controls and preservation tools.

·         IT staff responsible for institutional repositories

·         Research scholars and faculty interested in open access

Workshop Structure

·         Day 1 (Dec 06): Introduction, architecture, installation overview, metadata basics, creating communities & collections, ingest demos.

·         Day 2 (Dec 07): Ingest workflows, metadata mapping, access controls, preservation, backup, and integration.

Certificates will be issued to participants who attend both days and complete the post-workshop assignment/feedback form.

Note: Participants are recommended to have a laptop with at least 8GB RAM and access to a stable internet connection for hands-on exercises.
