It is with a very heavy heart that I inform the library community of the sad and sudden demise of Satish Deshpande who was presently associated with Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. He was previously the librarian of The British Library Ahmedabad, which he served for about 29 years. One the finest professionals we had in India is no more. I am sad that such a wonderful library professional who touched thousands of lives in this country through his meticulous and professional service has left us. I remember my first meeting him in 1992 and while working with him I was always amazed at his energy and service oriented attitude till his passing away. He was a doyen in the Ahmedabad library fraternity and his departure is a great loss to librarianship in general.
