Date: Tue, 4 Jan 2011 11:41:25 +0000 From: MN Seetharaman <mns27@hotmail.com> Dear Sri Prabhu, UGC has issued guidelines reg. physical stock verification of library books and write-off loss under certain limits of the books found rmissing or damaged during physical verification, provided the loss is not due to fraud, theft or negligence. The Physical Verification Committee has to make recommendations in this regard. The Librarian can not be held responsible unless he failed in his duties in not properly monitoring the issue and recall of books loaned to the users. In order to minimize the loss of books, you need to develop a good, computerized circulation system with provision for imposing fines for late or non-return of books by users. Please visit and study the modern library circulation systems in force in reputed libraries like NAL Bangalore, IISc, IIt Libraries and others. Best wishes M N Seetharaman Formerly, NAL Library & Information Centre

Dear Professionals:
While doing the Stocck Verfication of our library collection, we found that some books were missing/lost. Is there any standing rules for replacing the lost books or is it that the loss should be made good by the Librarian? Pls send to me if you have any GO or norms for the same.
