[LIS-Forum] NAAC Gradings- Some Observations-UoM Distinction

Dear Professionals, I wish to share my observations about NAAC Gradings updated as on 5th Jan 2013. University of Mysore (UoM) has got *'A' Grade (Very Good) with 3.47 CGPA* (Cumulative Grade Point Average) Score. * General:* Out of 101 Universities re-assessed and re-accredited as on 5 Jan 2013 - 35 have been assessed first time - 64 have been accredited 2nd time - Only two have been accredited third time (UoM and Pondichery Univ) - 69 Universities assessed and accredited earlier, but their validity is lapsed. *UoM Distinction:* 1. Among 10 Universities re-assessed and re-accredited by NAAC in Karnataka, * * 4 universities got 'A'* *Grade* with UoM getting the First Ranks *with 3.47 CGPA rating followed by KLE Society (3.16), Bangalore (3.12), Karnatak (3.02), Kannada, Hampi (3.02), Nitte, Mangalore (2.87), Gulburga (2.86), Kuvempu (2.81), Tumkur (2.26) and Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (2.15). 2. Among 101 Universities re-assessed and re-accredited by NAAC in the country: - 53 Universities got 'A' Grade and rest had to be satisfied with 'B' grade with highest Score of 3.91 and Lowest 2.05 - Among State Universities in the country* UoM shares 4th Rank *with Punjab University, top ones being Andhra (3.65), Jadhavpur (3.61) and Gurunanak Dev (3.5). - Among all Indian Universities re-assessed and re-accredited by NAAC including Central, Deemed, Private and State Universities * UoM shares 12th Rank *with Punjab Univ, top ones being JNU (3.91), Univ of Hyderabad (3.89), TISS, Mumbai (3.88),BITS, Pilani (3.71), Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (3.66), Andhra (3.65), IGIDR, Mumbai,(3.64), Jadhavpur (3.61), Sri Ramachandra, Chennai (3.52), SRM Inst.of S & T, TN (3.50) and Gurunanak Dev (3.50). - In the earlier assessments UoM's grades were A+ and 5 Stars as per the old scheme. * NAAC Committee About UoM Library: *The entire Peer Team along with most of the IQAC members visited all sections of the library for auditing and had encouraging discussion during half an hour presentation. *The NAAC.**committee complimented us profusely for upgrading it with quality state-of-the-art services as one of the best university library in the country.* It is worthwhile to mention here that few months back UGC Academic Staff College at UoM got 5th Rank among 66 ASCs assessed by NAAC. Even during this assessment UoM library played a vital role in getting this distinction. The credit of this distinction goes mainly to Prof. V.G.Talawar, a LIS Professional and ex-VC of UoM and his dedicated select team. * Some Questions? Some ifs and buts: - *NAAC accreditation is not mandatory for colleges and universities* *- Out of about 600 universities in the country only 101 have gone for assessment* - *But we should note that in many project proposals NAAC Gradings get credit. - Even in case of colleges same trend is observed. - Why not NAAC Assessment be made mandatory. - There is need to educate entire staff of colleges and universities in this matter as even the maintenance of toilets is counted for assessment. * *NAAC has brought many publications including Promotional Material, Manuals, Guidelines, Analysis of Accreditation Reports, Best Practices, Annual Reports, News Letter, etc useful for Universities and Colleges undergoing accreditation.
