Thanks for your email on LIS-forum. First, I wish to congratulate you for
getting elected as the secretary for the Indian Library Association and I
understand that under your esteemed leadership the association will grow in
stature.
As being on the same page with you on the development of the association, I
wish to list the below some issues which in my humble opinion could be of
priority.
First, is the membership id which could be issued in our mailing address,
second the membership centre which may be opened in major cities which will
facilitate better co-ordination and networking and third, is a request for
us to receive the newsletters through online or post by time as being a
member since the year 2010, I’ve received just one letter till this date at
the election of president .
I understand that apart from the above issues your tenure as the secretary
will be filled with other pressing issues and challenges, but I’ve just
expressed my humble request as being a stakeholder.
Thanks again for your efforts to which I’m so grateful to.

Dear Colleagues, At the outset, i wish to thank all library professionals in the country for supporting my candidature for ILA President ship. As you are already aware, there is lot to be done still for our profession, despite of best efforts of all my predecessors.We are all thankful to them. However, all that i can assure you is that this newly formed council will do its best to address the problems being faced by the libraries and librarians in India. In the process, i need the support of all my professional friends and colleagues. I am glad to inform you that after taking over charge as the President of ILA on 1st April, 2016, the first council meeting has been fixed on 1st may 2016. The agenda of the meeting has been prepared after long discussions with my colleagues. I wish you may go through the same and point out if some more items may be added for discussion under any other item.In fact i would very much appreciate if you could e mail the Problems and also their possible solutions. Soon we will create a discussion forum on the Dynamic website of ILA, where we can meet as and when required.
AGENDA: 1. Constitution of Executive Committee.
2. Constitution of Sectional Committees and appointment of their Chairpersons.
3. Problems of librarians and Library profession. 3.1 Accreditation of Library Science Courses 3.2 Appointments and Promotions of Librarians 3.3 Inter-changeable qualifications for appointment as Librarians/Teachers of Library Science. 3.4 Establishment of Indian Institute of Library and Information Science as recommended by NKC. 3.5 Strengthening the Public Library Network from National level to Local Level. 3.6 Parity of Scale of Pay and retirement age of librarians with teachers. 3.7 U.G.C. scheme of minor /major research projects. 3.8 Introduction of LIS subjects in the curriculum of Under Graduate Courses.
4. Any other item with the permission of the Chair.
