Dear all, OK, producing Nobel Laureates is no doubt would add one more feather to the cap of our prestigious IITs. But we should not berate the IITs just because no Nobel Laureate has come out their portals so far. If we take a balanced view about Nobel Laureates vis-a-vis IIT engineers, it is better to produce hundreds and thousands of engineers and scientists, rather than a handful of Nobel Laureates, if at all we are able to do so. After all, what do the Nobel Laureates do except for propating some obscure theories and findings that are beyong the comprehension of most of us, undertaking lecture tours, sitting on Government-Committees etc., whereas our IITians make our country proud by becoming CEOs of MNCs, working on IT and IT-enabled services all over the world, developing new products and processes, creating jobs and wealth by setting up start-ups and incubators etc. We can confidently vouch for the fact that in the not too distant future, no governments, corporates, industries and other institutions and organizations in most of the countries can afford not to engage the services of our IITians. Therefore, let us all join together in saluting our IITs for putting India on the world map. Recently, when I visited a foreign country and took out my Indian passport at the immigration counter, the officials asked me whether I come from Bengaluru which they heard so much about. Needless to say, my heart had ndeed swelled with full of pride and joy, since I happen to live in Bengaluru for several decades now. 1) Why should the IITs produce Nobel Laureates? They produce engineers, and there are no Nobel prizes in an engineering field! Next, people will ask why the IITs aren't producing good cricketers or football players!
2) These are times when the likes of Malala Yousufzai, Kailash Satyarthi, and Obama are winning Nobel prizes... It's better that IITs (and other universities) are producing graduates who are actually contributing to society and technology, rather than glorified "Nobel Laureates".
3) The article and the way it has presented the arguments speak more of the quality of journalism (or lack of it) at NDTV, rather than the IITs.
