[LIS-Forum] Re: Article Indexing of Indian Journals

Dear Friends: I came to know about the work of Diwan Enterprises through the Lis-Forum. I do not know if the service offered by them is free or fee-based. Ms Chitra Rao may please clarify. We already have at least four institutions providing FREE Full-text access to journals, viz. Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy, NIC-Indian Medlars Centre, and MedKnow Publications. Together these four institutions provide free electronic access to more than 85 journals. There may be other Indian publishers providing free access to their journals, whom I may not know. I just want to make some brief comments: -- Do not repeat the mistake of going ahead without adopting andadhering to International Inter-operable standards. Library andInformation Science Domain has number of such standards includingVocabulary Control, Meta Data, Rendering etc. -- Do not undertake those projects which can not be sustained overperiod of time. The content generated should be persistent over aperiod of time. This requires firm commitment from the employer. Avoidbeing "fly by night operators". Understand the business model for theproject. Do take care of persistency of URLs.

-- Strive for Open or Free Access. Indian content lack exposure.Open/Free Access will give it the desired exposure. --Trust of the users is the most important thing. --Cooperate with each other within the LIS Community. Do not wastetime and energy in establishing own "Kingdoms". Together we stand. and Lastly, Fear Encroachment.
