Friends, Here is an interesting news story. The Direct to Open (or D2O) model of distributing books published by the MIT Press has entered the second year and many more titles will be added this year. https://publishingperspectives.com/2023/08/open-access-mit-press-to-expand-i... Other publishers, especially university and society publishers, would do well to follow this model. This action of MIT (similar to the Subscription to Open or S2O model of Annual Reviews Inc. who expect to make all their 51 journals S2O by year end) is in line with Mahatma Gandhi's vision of Trusteeship :Those who can afford should take care of those who cannot.
