Dear Sir,
In reference of 2-3 mails I have recently received, I would like to clear few things.
The quality and remuneration has become 2 sides of coin. Because the salary is less no good students are anymore interested in this profession and since no good students the level of pay packages is decreasing day by day. None of our school is taking efforts to explain how to study the company what and how the fresh degree holders should demand at the time of interview. We either in forums or in open discussions talk a lot about what and how much should be demanded by freshers, but when it comes to us we hesitate to give good salary to these candidates who come to us for jobs. I myself had accepted low package at the starting which was battle of level of degree. Within ourselves we differ B.Lib. and M.Lib. levels and try to keep the gap in salary. What is suggest is though the education is important we should not ignore the experience at same time if experience is imp we should not ignore degree. While offering package to new comers in field we should think about current market conditions as well.
Schools and colleges should help students to study and market and company and co-operate them to design their package. What I have observed that very few people are aware about govt. break up of salary and the corporate way of CTC. All this though can not be included in curriculum should be explain separately to the students.
Sometimes students confuse one organization with other. And ask for the same amount which the other was offering. If any organization decided to give x amount and if students demand x-y then the person or head of library of that office would come in trouble. The other professionals would think that by demanding more for library profession the existing professional was doing injustice with organization. Thus our current professionals should clearly give min-max salary range while declaring position and the lecturers as well should give clean picture of all these things while sending students outside.
I guess we will think about it and get back with some nice solution which will give value to our profession and will attract more and more qualitative students in field.
Regards,
Monali

It is nice to see that we are thinking about the status of library & information science professionals.
I think that only we people are responsible for this position.
As a recruiter, we are offering low stipend or as a fresher professionals are asking in same way.
This is not one day task to change image but as initially Library Sciecne school should think about this matter seriously and motivate new professional during study.
Same way working professionals should cooperate for the same.
