Banglore- 560059 DRTC Students' Colloquium on Information Service in Digital Environment Abstract The environment in which the information services are to be provided have changed significantly. These changes are mostly the result of technological changes i.e. emphasis on the use of modern information technology, developments of computer technology and telecommunication technology. Thus the concept of libraries has changed and digital library is an emerging trend in the present information technology era. There are different types of digital information services and almost all are converging in the services provided by the digital libraries. Digital information service, though looks easy to be provided, poses its own challenges in terms of metadata, digital collection development, copyright, preservation, cost, technology obsolescence, etc. In the colloquium we are going to discuss the issues relating to different types of digital information services, how are they provided, how they are going to help in research and education and the importance of open sources.
