Dear Sir / Madam,

Nagarjuna College of Engineering and Technology (NCET) is organizing a Two-Day National Level Workshop on Learning Management systems (LMS) on March 26th & 27th 2010. This workshop facilitates the participants to organize an online learning environment and to create and conduct a course on the LMS using Moodle. It will be extremely useful to library and information science professionals as information facilitators. Eminent personalities drawn from IISc., IIIT, Bangalore will be delivering lectures.

I request you to participate / depute your library staff to this two-day workshop and do the needful.

About the Workshop: A Learning Management System (LMS) is used to organize an online learning environment. Typically an LMS provides the means to track

users, assess performance, deploy content, and access general administrative functions such as management of users records. It will greatly facilitate the conduct of a course. In formal degree programs it can support all the activities from registration to awarding of grades to the students. The server on which this LMS runs is

usually located in the college or department or any where in the world. The instructor and the learners can access the system from anywhere with an Internet

connection. At its most basic level, an LMS gives educators tools to create a course website and provide access control, so only controlled students can view it. Apart from access control, LMS offers a wide variety of tools to make learning more effective. It provides an easy way to upload and share materials, hold online

discussions, and chat, give quizzes and surveys, gather and review assignments, and record grades. Moodle is an open source LMS that universities, colleges, businesses, and even individual instructors use to create and manage their courses. More than 30,000 educational organizations around the world currently use

Moodle to deliver online courses and supplement traditional face-to-face courses. Moodle is designed to help educators to create online courses with opportunities for rich interactions. Its open source license and modular design means that people can develop additional functionality. The Workshop facilitates the participants to create and conduct a course on the Learning Management System using Moodle.
