I think it is serious matter.  The main reason I feel is that, most of the library science professionals (mainly recently qualified)  are degrading their value in the market.  Most of the times I have seen we the library professionals are not taking care of the value of our education.  I have faced lots of interview from various prestigious academic colleges and institution.  Being a DRTCian, when I am preferring to get a good remuneration they are not ready to pay.  The reason they are telling "When I am getting a Qualified librarian (M. Lib. Passed), why should I pay a double or triple to you?"  Yes they are getting.  This is because there are many many M. Libs.  are ready to get a Librarian jobs with a mere salary 5000/- per month.  I know, most of the college (Newly formed)  in Mumbai are paying like that.  They don't bother to have a  quality of library in their institution also.  Many a time they are managing a library with non-qualified one.  I don't know about UGC/ AICTE rules regarding the appointment of Librarian.  But may be for self financed Institution, they may have the reason to do that.

It is nice to see that we are thinking about the status of library & information science professionals.
I think that only we people are responsible for this position.
As a recruiter, we are offering low stipend or as a fresher professionals are asking in same way.
 
 This is not one day task to change image but as initially Library Sciecne school should think about this matter seriously and motivate new professional during study.
 Same way working professionals should cooperate for the same.
