Hello All, Could we have an open discussion on Copyright Laws in India...what constitutes a copyright violation? 1. Photocopying of books and keeping them for display and use in the library? 2. Scanning of books - say for using as a digital library? After all, these are not done for any commercial purpose, we do not sell them, they are for everyday use, especially when there is a huge demand for a particular book.....does this constitute a copyright violation? Can Academic Libraries not keep multiple copies of photocopies books which would really help the students? What about scanning books? Can books not be scanned and stored digitally? Have any of you tried these methods? Do they work? Are they legal? Can a library do such a thing? How do you handle situations when books are in great demand? Could you discuss these and other such related issues?
