The Library at Max Mueller Bhavan Reopens with a New Fascinating Look The Goethe-Institut is the cultural organization of the Federal Republic of Germany. In India the Goethe-Institut is known as Max Mueller Bhavan (MMB) in honour of the German Indologist Friedrich Max Mueller. For more than 50 years, the library at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan New Delhi, has been a resource and an inspiration for Indians interested in German language, culture and society. An excellent collection on German artists, poets and philosophers is the major attraction for the library readers. Over 3000 students attending the German language courses per year at MMB enjoy the library as a space for learning and meeting. To meet the growing and diverse needs of its readers, the library has been completely redesigned and opens its doors with a fascinating new look. Flexible space, an aesthetically appealing design, state-of-the-art technical equipment and furniture characterize the new library. The facilities include an attractive lounge area, comfortable group and individual work areas, modern multi-media stations as well as an ever growing collection of books and audiovisual media. With its creative new interior design, the library can be transformed into a multipurpose space for film screenings, readings, and lectures. To inaugurate and introduce the new library, Max Mueller Bhavan organizes a Library Week. On this occasion, Dr. Klaus Ulrich Werner, Director of the Philological Library of the Freie Universität and a leading German expert on modern and innovative library buildings, has been invited. He will outline the key qualities of flexible user-oriented library space and will show some remarkable examples of new academic and public libraries.
